Concrete Walkway Replacement Starts With the Forms
See the forming stage of a walkway replacement and learn how the new section is planned between existing concrete.
A replacement walkway section takes shape before concrete arrives. In this J&L Underground Construction project, wooden forms outline the open section between existing concrete, with reinforcement visible within the work area.
Forms establish the placement boundaries
The forms define where the new concrete will go. Their position needs to relate to the walkway that remains, including its alignment and the elevations at either end.
Preparation also involves the area inside those boundaries. Support beneath the concrete and any reinforcement are parts of the planned work, even though they will not remain visible after placement.
Small projects still need preparation
A short replacement section can involve several decisions before the pour. Looking at the forming stage helps explain why concrete work includes more than delivering and finishing the material.
